As our wedding quickly approaches, the weight of our craft projects seems heavier and heavier. I think I may have bit off more than I can chew! Oh well, that is kind of my style.
One project I have been working on for months have been these hand painted mandala rocks. I am making a couple hundred of them... I first started drawing mandalas a couple years ago as a way to take my mind off my newly developed anxiety. It was incredible how calm I felt when I was drawing. Since then I have felt a real connection to mandalas. The following is a profound quote describing the symbolism behind mandalas.
A mandala is a symbol in a dream, a representation of the dreamer's search for completeness and self unity. Mandalas remind us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our own bodies and minds.
Interestingly I actually had a very unique experience with mandalas at a young age. I believe I was 3. My mom and aunt had taken me to see the monks sand mandalas at the Victoria Art Gallery. These monks would come and spend over a week creating this beautiful big mandala out of colourful sand, and at the end would destroy it. According to my mom and aunt I was staring at this big mandala ahead of me and turned to them and said. Wow I get it! Its all connected! The monk then apparently then looked up from his work and gave me a big smile.
As we plan our wedding, I am making sure we have plenty of our personalities infused into our design. These rocks are the perfect addition to our tables and will be mingled amongst rose quartz, baby's breath and succulents! I originally gained my inspiration for these rocks from this blog here. This DIY is incredibly affordable and very simple!!
